FAQ
Can I apply as both an artist and a writer? No, we want to make sure participants will have enough time to work on their individual projects. This is why we ask you only sign up as either a writer, artist or beta.
How does getting your assigned pair work? We will accept submissions from writers and set them up on a form for artists to choose their top 5 choices. When the time comes, we will then sort everyone into little groups and you will be notified via email who you'll be working with.
How should I communicate with my group? Once you receive your email about who is in your group you will be expected to make a group chat with them over discord and coordinate there. We encourage you to check in frequently with your group to ensure the most smooth sailing experience.
Who are the mods? On the first page of the carrd you can find the mods page with the current list of mods.
Guidelines
You must be 18+ to sign up for this event and enter the Discord.
We will primarily be communicating through a discord server. Joining the discord server and checking it periodically is a requirement for participation. Once matches are made, artist-writer groups may use different methods of communication, but are still expected to check in periodically with event mods. Emails will sometimes be sent out to keep information like pairings private, and an announcement would be made on discord when this occurs.
Participate in check-ins! Communicate!!! Communicate with us! Communicate with your team! Let us know what's up! If you end up having to drop or need any extensions, that's fine, but PLEASE let us know. The sooner we know, the easier it will be to support you and those you are working with. Sometimes life goes to shit, we’ve all been there. If you communicate when that happens, we’re here to provide an extension or help in whatever way we can.
Do not harass us or any event participants. All of our mods are running this for free in our spare time. We're doing our best and want this to be a fun event for everyone! Harassment is generally three-strikes-you’re-out, but you may be kicked for a single offense depending on severity. Discrimination will not be tolerated. Be polite! Don't be an asshole!
Please mind your topics! While your fics are allowed to discuss darker content, NSFW discussion should be kept to NSFW channels. Also, particularly dark topics should be put in its own channel.
If you ignore a mod asking you to move, especially when it comes to the above mentioned topics, that will be counted as a strike.
Once you have joined the event and the Discord server, please use the appropriate discord channels to ask questions, rather than pinging the event’s social media.
Betas will not be required, but we will help you find one on request. Artists and writers will also be able to ping a dedicated channel to ask betas specific questions.
Using AI to generate art or writing content for this challenge is prohibited, this includes AI editing. This event is about people working together, so let’s create and inspire each other!
If you use a beta to fully proofread your work, you must name them and acknowledge their efforts in your posted work. Failure to do so will result in removal from the collection.
Writers
The minimum requirement for works will be determined after the interest check.
There is no upper limit on word count.
Works will be posted to a collection on AO3.
The fic must be new, unpublished, and unshared on any public forums.
It is permitted to join the event with a fic that has already been started, so long as none of the story— including outlines or plot ideas— have been shared publicly. However, works may not be more than ~50% complete before pairings are announced. If you’re unsure whether a piece you’ve already begun writing is suitable for the event, please reach out to a mod before Check-in #1.
If your fic has multiple chapters, you will be expected to post at least the first chapter on your assigned posting date. After that, your update schedule is entirely up to you.
Artists Guidelines
Artists are required to draw one new art piece based on their partner’s story. Artists will have a say in which fic they would like to work with during the Summary Selection process.
There is no upper limit on the number of art pieces you may create.
Artwork can be any style and medium— digital or traditional, as well as comic-style format. All artwork must be new.
Beta Guidelines
Betas will participate in a Summary Selection process to choose which project they would like to work with. Both Classic and Reverse summaries will be available during the selection process, and betas are free to request whichever summaries they like best, regardless of which side of the event their chosen summaries fall on.
If you only sign up as a beta, you may beta for up to 3 fics. If you decide to sign up as both a beta and another role in the event, you may only beta for 1 fic.
What betas look over (SPAG, continuity, tenses, plot cohesiveness, etc) will depend upon what each writer wants to have evaluated.
Betas can also choose to work on fics on a case-by-case basis, if someone pings the @Beta role in the event’s Discord server.
